Phone or computer

Hindi, Tamil and Telugu translations of this page are under review.

The Doorprints website is the same app on a phone and on a computer. Everything you save stays in your browser either way. A few things look or work differently because the screen and the browser are different. This page lists them.

What you see

On a phone On a computer
The map and the house list The map is on top and the list below it (screens up to 760 pixels wide) The list is beside the map
The menu A bar at the bottom of the screen A bar at the top
Buttons Larger, easier to touch Standard size
Moving the map One finger scrolls the page and two fingers move the map; a short hint says so Drag the map
Adding a house on the map One finger moves the map and a tap places the pin Click to place the pin

Installing

  • Computer, Chrome or Edge: an install button appears in the address bar.
  • Android, Chrome: open the browser menu and choose Install app.
  • iPhone, Safari: choose Share, then Add to Home Screen. The iPhone gives no install prompt.

An installed Doorprints also starts without internet. Two things work only for an installed app, and only where your browser allows it: sharing a listing from another app straight into Doorprints (Android), and double-clicking a backup file (.zip) to open it in Import a backup (a computer with Chrome or Edge).

Files, printing and sharing

  • Import a backup: on a computer, choose the file. On a phone, choose the file there or open it from another app such as WhatsApp or Files and choose Doorprints.
  • PDF: on a phone, Open print view opens a new tab to print from. On a computer it prints from the same page.
  • Add a shared listing: see Your houses; it works from a phone's share menu once the website is installed on Android.

Google Drive

  • Joining another browser with a QR code: the camera of a phone can scan it. A computer with a camera may be able to as well; if not, paste the code.
  • The passkey that protects deleting everything can be the computer's own Windows Hello or Touch ID, your phone (the browser shows a QR code to scan), or a security key. See Back up to Google Drive.

Not on the website, on any device

The website has no Hunt mode reminders, no wake-up in hunting areas and no background location: those are in the Android and iPhone apps. A viewing reminder on the website appears only while Doorprints is open.

Things only your browser decides

  • Maps need a browser that supports WebGL 2. Without it, a message replaces the map and the rest of the page still works.
  • Firefox is the only browser that asks whether Doorprints may keep its data permanently.
  • Map tiles are not saved for offline use unless you save an area (Settings and privacy).
