Hunt mode¶
Turn on Hunt mode on the Map while you walk around an area. Your phone then tells you, with a notification (a message at the top of the screen), when you come near a house you have saved. It also shows whether you have been on this street before. If you stay near a house long enough, Doorprints notes a visit for you.
In Settings, under Hunt mode, choose:
- how close counts as "near" ("Alert when I am within 30 m of a saved house");
- how long you must stay for it to count as a visit;
- Trace my path on the map (off unless you turn it on): while Hunt mode is on, Doorprints keeps where you walked and draws it on the Map as a purple line, so you can see which streets you have covered. It stays on this phone only: it is never in a backup, a copy or on a server, and it is removed after 30 days. Clear the path under the switch removes it right away.
GPS (how the phone finds where you are) is usually correct to within 5–20 m, so houses next door can be mixed up. Alerts pause when the signal is weak, such as indoors. Hunt mode stops by itself when the battery is low. It needs precise location and notifications turned on.
On an iPhone, Hunt mode works the same way. While it is on, the blue location sign at the top of the screen shows that Doorprints is using your location, also with the screen off. For Hunt mode Doorprints asks for "While using the app" only.
Wake me in my hunting areas¶
In Settings > My areas, Wake me in my hunting areas (off unless you turn it on) tells you when you arrive in one of your areas that has Wake me here on (see Your areas and places): "You're in . Start Hunt mode?". Doorprints explains what it does first, then asks for your precise location and for location "all the time" (on iPhone, "Always"), because the phone must notice your arrival while Doorprints is closed. The phone compares your position with your areas itself; Doorprints keeps no location history. You get it at most once every six hours per area, never while Hunt mode is on, and it never starts tracking by itself: on Android tap Start Hunt mode, on iPhone tap the notification and start it on the Map. If you take the permission away, the switch turns itself off and says why. The website cannot do this.
